Maxwell A & N State Sub Junior (U-15) Chess Selection Championship 2022 was organised by Andaman Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA) on 16.10.2022 at Govt. Tagore College of Education Auditorium, Middle Point, Port Blair successfully.
The tournament was graced by Shri Sara Chandran, Deputy Director of Education (Plg/Perl) as chief guest while Shri V Selvam, Nodal Officer, Sports and Youth Affair, Port Blair was the guest of honour for the inaugural ceremony. They inaugurated the championship by making the ceremonial move on the top boards against R Kashthuri Bhai for Girls event and A Chirag Kumar for Boys event to kickstart the championship.
The chief guest for the closing ceremony was Dr. E. B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIAR while Smti P Sushilla owner Maxwell and Shri. Soumitra Roy, Insurance advisor graced occasion as the guest of honours. They gave away the prizes to the winners of the tournament.
A full day event was held separately for boys and Girls in rapid format over six rounds. Around 90 players participated in the event, in which Shrestha Vijay, Carmel School secured first position, MA Dinakar, Kamaraj English Medium School secured second and J.S Viraj, VKV Lamba Line stood third and V Yashwant, Model School stood fourth in boys category.
Similarly, in the girls category, R Kashthuri Bhai, GDM School secured first position, Tanisha Raj, VKV Lamba Line school secured second, Kavya Raj, VKV, Lamba Line stood third and S Vidhya, Kamaraj English Medium School secured fourth position respectively. The winners were awarded with Trophies, Cash prize and certificates.
These top best four players from boys and girls have been selected to participate in the upcoming National Sub Junior (U-15) Chess Championship 2022 to be held in New Delhi during November 2022
Apart from U-15 category, three best players each in boys and girls from Under 09, Under 11, Under 13 and best youngest boy and girl were also awarded with trophies and certificates.
